Wolvering going where no Wolverine has gone before

March 19 — Because, apparently, there can never be too much Wolverine, everyone’s favorite mutant will soon be both dead and joining another team.

Last month we heard that Marvel planned to “get rid” of Wolverine. Naturally, we assumed that Marvel was planning to “kill off” their cash cow wolverine. It turns out that the truth is slightly different.

While everyone on Earth, from his fellow Avengers to X-Men, will believe that Wolverine is dead, he’ll really be in deep space, working with the Guardians of the Galaxy as part of a new series, reportedly to be written by Jeph Loeb and called the Space Avengers.

Asked to comment on the rumor, Loeb said, “I can only tell you that we’re committed to The Avengers universe and that’s as far as I can go.”

No doubt, Marvel is counting on Wolverine to boost sales and create some synergy between the Guardians and Wolverine franchises. Wolverine is a good choice to raise the team’s profile. After all, he is the best there is at what he does, and what he does is make money.
