Executives nervous that Superman too colorful

June 17 — Even before the final box office numbers were in for the opening week of Man of Steel, Warner Brothers executives were privately concerned that their latest Superman movie isn’t dark enough.

Word from behind the scenes in Hollywood has it that Warner Brothers wants the next Superman film, filming at super speed in order to arrive in theaters next year, to feature a pure black costume. As one industry insider put it, “Batman wears black and he sold like hotcakes. Yeah [they] got rid of the underwear, but who the [expletive deleted] wears blue tights, anyway?”

It has become a Hollywood cliché that comic book chracters transitioning to the big screen have to change their costume to black leather. Blade, Wolverine, and Thor have all seen title characters trade colorful costumes for black. Even a record box office return for Man of Steel might not keep Warner Brothers from forcing Superman to follow suit with his suit.
