Dan DiDio Hates on Wally West some more

March 6 — Attendees of last weekend’s Emerald City Comic Con have been reporting having heard some rumors about Wally West. It seems that one of the reasons we won’t see Wally in the near future is because DC brass can’t decide on his new costume!

“We spent a lot of time on this,” said DC publisher Dan DiDio when pressed for a comment at the close of the New 52 panel. “Jim Lee did a lot of the layout. He worked with several other artists, as well. So many people are so familiar with what has existed before.” After a pause he added, “There is one major goal: one of the things we’re going for right now is the introduction of new characters and new ideas to the 52. Now I feel we have the impetus to try new characters and new things.”

Co-Publisher Jim Lee added, “ I just kind of sat down and just started sketching costumes and seeing what worked and what didnrsquo;t work, and it was all very rough draft stuff. None of that stuff was thought out — it was just kind of spur-of-the-moment, you know? I just wish I had more time to work on all that stuff.”

Seriously guys, if you found a way to green-light Harley Quinn as a Juggalette and a Deathstroke costume incorporating the worst aspects of Marvel’s Cable designs, what’s the hold-up on redesigning Wally West? Do you not have enough yellow markers? Can’t figure how to squeeze more speed lines on the page? Just give us back our Flash already!
